How to Build Your Own Olaf

So here’s what you need to know about our Elf, Harvey. We love him coming to visit each year, but he likes to keep his adventures simple, relatively mess-free and easy. He’s my kind of Elf and his latest escapade – building an Olaf snowman out of toilet paper was perfect! My kids thought it was the silliest thing…needless to say our TP Olaf was a big hit!

All you need to do to recreate this Elf on the Shelf fun is gather a couple rolls of toilet paper. If you have one that’s a little smaller than the other, use that for the head. Next you’ll need to download the Build Your Own Olaf printable by clicking the link below.

Print on white cardstock then cut out the Olaf pieces. Attach to the rolls of toilet paper using scotch tape. For the hair, tuck it in the cardboard tube and tape to the inside. That’s it! Your Elf just built an Olaf and your kids will think it’s the best thing ever!

I only picked up on the Elf on the Shelf idea last year mid way through December . It is not a big thing here in South Africa. I tried to find an elf similar to those that I had seen on the North American blogs and websites but all I could find was a soft toy girl elf who looks more like a witch. My 4 year old daughter promptly named her Witchie. And as every night she was put to sleep on the wing back chair, our Elf on the Shelf has morphed into Witchie on the Wingback. I rather like our bespoke version. Her return this year on 1 December was met with great excitment by my now 5 year old girl. Because we live in the Southern Hemisphere were we have sunny hot Christmases with no snow, I try as far as I can to steer clear of the snow motief in decorations and Witchie activities/tasks – it is very difficult even here. However when I saw your Olaf idea, I just couldn’t resist it, especially as my little one is completely smitten with the Frozen characters. And so Witchie set little Claire the task of building an Olaf using your printable sheet and the loo paper rolls one morning last week. It was a great hit. And now a beloved, if sligtly battered, Olaf stands grinning at us from the book shelf in our living room, or where ever he ends up after being carted around the house all day. Thank you for the lovely idea. We have had great fun with it.
